About Us

The Metal Monster brand maybe new but the owners are far from new to the sport, with a combined experience of over 30 years, being players themselves they know what’s important. They have ran and managed, rinks, leagues and hockey equipment shops since 1998.

OUR HISTORY

1998, we opened the first dedicated inline hockey rink in Sheffield under the banner of In-Line UK. The rink boasted SportCourt flooring, purpose built 40m x 20m rink, plexi glass, cafe, spectator seating and an Ice/inline hockey equipment shop. 

2001, we opened our second rink in Hartlepool under the banner of the Jesters Inline Hockey Centre (suppported by the Newcastle Jesters Pro ice hockey club). The rink boasted 2 x purpose built rinks, a 50m x 25m rink and a 40m x 20m rink, both of which had SportCourt flooring, plexi glass, spectator seating together with a cafe and an Ice/inline hockey equipment shop.

2003, we purchased the Silver Blades Ice Rink in Sheffield and ran ice and inline hockey leagues side by side for a full ice hockey season in sheffield with the rinks U19's ice team (made up of mostly inline hockey players) winning the national league without losing a single game.

2005, the Iraq war and the increasing oil prices doubled the electricty costs of running the Silver Blades Ice rink and reluctantly we decided to close our In-Line UK and Hartlepool rinks and to convert the Silver Blades Ice Rink into the UK's premier inline hockey facility. The ice was removed and replaced with SportCourt flooring, the old concrete barrier system was replaced with a new barrier and plexi glass and the rink was upgraded generally.

The premises were re-branded as Skate Central and the Sheffield rink continues to be a popular leisure facility hosting public skating, roller hockey leagues, roller derby bouts as well as numerous music concerts and boxing events.

We have hosted leagues, tournnaments and GB trials for all of the UK's hockey associations including, NARCH, BIPHA, BISHA, GBINLINE, RINK HOCKEY ASSOCIATION plus many other non affiliated organisations.

2013, We established the Metal Monster brand ceating hockey leagues and development clinics.

You can buy from Metal Monster Sales 24 hours a day 7 days a week on our website, but we also have a pro shop located in Skate Central roller arena Sheffield. Skate Central is the U.K.’s premier venue for roller skating, roller derby and roller hockey.

Metal Monster launched the UK’s first fully sponsored senior roller hockey league where the top teams get paid to play!

Coming soon to Metal Monster……. We have teamed up with the Sheffield Steelers Pro ice hockey team to create” Steelers Inline”, which will offer beginners lessons, development, clinics and junior leagues for the future skater and hockey Star.
